The North Sea in transition

The North Sea ecosystem is facing major changes in the coming decades due to the increasing demand for energy (through hundreds of windmills) and food (aquaculture of mussels, oysters or seaweeds) from the sea. This increase in energy and food production will have to take place as much as possible in balance with natural developments. HuFoSS advises the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ, Texel and Yerseke), together with the most important Dutch stakeholders and organizations, to compose a research program into these developments and changes.
