In the week leading up to Easter we paid a visit to Heraklion, capital of Crete and nearby to our partner institute Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR). Thanks to our colleague Yolanda Koulouri at HCMR we met a record number of stakeholders during our time there, all of whom expressed a great enthusiasm and interest in the research. They talked us through the most important issues at hand, such as tourism, the status of the marine environment and the role of coastal development in this context. A visit was also undertaken to the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, where we can find Minoan frescoes and artefacts depicting maritime scenes, demonstrating the extent to which already the prehistoric island inhabitants were bound to the sea. To round off the week, together with stakeholders and colleagues we dined with a beautiful view on the bay of Heraklion, efcharistó Yolanda and Panagiotis for a fine week.
