Launching the third round of MarineSABRES stakeholder consultations on the Azores.

HuFoSS has officially launched the third round of stakeholder consultations within the MarineSABRES project. This new phase started in the Azores, with workshop held on São Miguel and Terceira, marking the first locations where stakeholders engaged with tool prototypes in an interactive setting.

Unlike earlier rounds, which focused on exploring local challenges, priorities and dynamics through interviews, this third round of consultations centres on testing semi-final tool prototypes together with stakeholders. The objective is to examine how these tools function in practice and where they can be improved to better reflect real-world coastal and marine contexts.

During the workshop in the Azores, local stakeholders from different sectors participated in interactive sessions designed to explore the tools collaboratively. These sessions provided valuable insights which will play an important role in refining the tools ahead of their further application.

With the region’s strong dependence on marine ecosystems, the Azores was a valuable location to start this phase of tool testing. The discussions highlighted both shared challenges and place-specific dynamics, underlining the importance of testing tools across diverse geographical and institutional settings.

The Azores workshops mark just the beginning of a broader series of third-round stakeholder consultations that will take place across multiple European coastal areas in the coming months. Together, these sessions will help ensure that the tools developed within MarineSABRES are not only scientifically robust, but also socially relevant and applicable in practice.
